On the afternoon of July 3, Philippine Deputy Minister of Information Gerald Baria led a group of Philippine mainstream media reporters to visit Shibadong Village, Huayuan County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture for the work of targeted poverty alleviation and rural revitalization.
In the past decade, Shibadong Village has creatively put forward some good philosophies for poverty alleviation such as “enclave economy”. The per capita net income increased from 1,668 yuan in 2013 to 23,505 yuan in 2022, and the village’s collective economic income has reached 3.8 million yuan.
The tour guides in the village enthusiastically sang the Tujia welcome song, and the press group also warmly interacted with them, and learnt to speak Miao language and sing Miao songs.
Later, the group went to Miao Embroidery Rural Revitalization Demonstration Base, Happy Homestay Inn, and Jingzhunping Square, and saw the radical changes that had taken place in Shibadong Village under the great policy of targeted poverty alleviation and rural revitalization.
In the Miao embroidery base, Shi Shunlian, former secretary of the Party branch of Shibadong Village, was leading more than 10 embroiderers to make circular fans. The press corps was very fond of the exquisite fans and took photos. Shi Shunlian greeted the reporters warmly.
In 2014, Shi Shunlian led the establishment of the Miao Embroidery Specialized Farmer’s Cooperative, organized the left-behind women in the village to make Miao embroidery works, and trained 55 professional embroiderers, creating an effective way for women to increase their income.
Gerald Baria said, “The out-of-poverty journey in Shibadong Village is incredible.
